Alkmaar, North Holland, the Netherlands, April 2022

Alkmaar, our home town before we moved to Spain, is a city and municipality in the province of North Holland, about 30 km north of Amsterdam and is well known for its one of only four traditional Dutch cheese markets still in existence. For tourists, it is a popular cultural destination. Alkmaar has many medieval buildings that are still intact, most notably the tall tower of the Grote or Sint-Laurenskerk and it has 399 registered national monuments, of which most are situated along the city's old canals.
