Zaanse Schans, Zaandam, North Holland, the Netherlands, April 2022

The Zaanse Schans is a historic Zaan neighborhood in the municipality of Zaanstad, founded in 1963, with nationally listed wooden buildings and industrial mills from the Zaan region relocated there. Over time, it has been supplemented with various cultural-historical museums, craft shops and catering establishments. It is located in the Kalverpolder, a protected peat meadow landscape on the Zaan, opposite the village of Zaandijk. Due to its architectural-historical and landscape value, this architectural reserve for Zaanse timber construction is a protected townscape. It developed into an international tourist destination with several million visitors every year: 2.2 million in 2017.
